Day 5: Our last day in Roma...

Finally it was Thursday...and we had come to our last day in Rome! After being brave the day before and trying the underground out at night we were extra brave on the last day and took a bus! Hayden hates buses at the best of times, let alone a crowded Rome bus where there is no visible way to pay or validate your ticket (very stressful for Hayden!). Luckily it all worked out fine and we landed somewhere in the central stroricco near this...
an amazing old building! Believe it or not!
The Pantheon was one of the things Hayden had been looking forward to seeing...and he wasn't disappointed!

In Australia you often see a sign advertising chips and a coke...or a pie and a coke... well when in Rome...
Oh how we would miss these cobbled streets... (but not really cause they are a BIG pain to walk on!)
...The Piazza Navona... Roman achitecture is based around public meeting places... Piazzas, they are pretty cool...(But not really, they are actually really HOT, cause whoever invented them hadn't heard of trees, or grass, or stuff that keeps you cool!...so when it's hot and sunny you pretty much die walking through a Piazza, and goodluck finding somewhere to sit in the shade!)

Umm...I'm pretty sure this is Socrates...but we saw the heads of so many famous people, I could be wrong...
 This is Venus...
This is Hayden contemplating a GIANT torso.... hahaha...

Just so much to look at!

...and so much delicious Gelato to eat!
...and when they say it comes in EVERY flavour...they aren't lying!
 Some romantic bridges....

...and a big walk to the Galleria Borghese...well worth it! If we'd known it was surrounded by massive gardens that you can ride tandem bikes around on we would have gone earlier! But this was by far the best art collection we saw in Rome...and probably in Italy!
....also you walk a long way underground from the train station to get there on these really steep escalators...unfortunately the picture doesn't really show how steep it is!
Our last night wouldn't be complete without a final trip up to our favourite gelato place (the one two doors down from our hotel)
ahh how I will miss you delicious gelato!
Rome was my favourite place in Italy! It just felt so Italian! I loved all the things to look at!
The next day we would pack up and head north to the heart of Tuscany; Florence, Hayden's favourite place on the trip:)
